Farm to Table: What's in Season?
Buying local fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible is a great way to support the local economy. Purchasing produce when it’s “in season” is also the best way to enjoy its nutritious benefits. While we can buy produce from anywhere globally at any time of the year, doing so may not always be sustainable.
When purchasing locally, produce is fresh and unprocessed. The spoilage that sometimes results in long-distance shipping is also eliminated. Fresh fruits and vegetables in season not only taste better, but they’re also better for you!
Attending Certified Farmer’s Markets is a great way to take advantage of the best produce, baked goods, and beautiful flowers and plants that come directly from the farm to your table.
Always check to make sure the market you attend is certified, and all food producers have verifiable licensing proof of production and meet all county and state health department regulations. By doing so, you’re not just supporting local businesses; you’re making a responsible and informed choice about the food you eat.
